Overview
I purchased this amp on a bit of a whim, after hearing great things about it and the Road King, and I loved the idea of a 4-channel version of the rectifier formula. To my surprise, it had a noticeably softer, less aggressive tone and less gain on both lead channels, and I felt it really needed a boost to do heavier styles. Both clean channels were excellent with great range, and can be set to their own variant of crunch tone (tweed and brit, respectively).
One minor issue I had with this amp was that the knurled knobs on the top row would get stuck when turning since they slightly rubbed against the black metal treadplate. Tightening the chassis screws helped a bit but the tolerance was a bit too tight, and if I were using this amp more frequently I’d probably have swapped out the knobs.
Heavy tones sound full with scooped mids and retain that classic rectifier full-bass and treble bite, but rolled back a notch or two, likely in the name of versatility. This amp also has an onboard spring reverb and the craziest 8-button footswitch I’ve seen (all in one row!). It’s a superb amp but didn’t quite jump out at me the same way more specialized amps do, and I sold it off once I got my hands on the 2ch Rev G Triple Rectifier (and later, the Rev F Dual).
