2000 Ibanez RG570

Details

I picked this one up on a bit of a whim, mainly just to try out the late 90s Wizard necks with the huge bubinga stripe. I always thought these looked cool, and I’m a fan of 3-piece necks like my Kramers so this seemed right up my alley. I was very pleased with the neck - really cool feel and the stripe looks awesome with a lot of reddish tones to the wood. It’s also a nicely glossed finish unlike many newer satin finish necks and I really like that feel, especially on the thin necks like this Wizard. The body has quite a few nicks and dents where the finish is flaking off at the sharp edges of the body, especially around the bottom edges and even on the horns. This isn’t pristine but I actually like the way it looks in an authentic road-worn kind of way. This color is called “Iron Pewter,” and has a silvery metallic shine to it, but in different light shows some slightly more brown and red tones, very cool and hard to really capture in a photo.

This guitar came with its factory configuration, cosmo black hardware and an original Edge bridge. Pickups are V7 and V8 humbuckers flanking an S1 single coil, and in positions two and four the humbuckers are split, so those sound like proper S/S tones. These humbuckers are often replaced but I actually find them to be quite good sounding, very smooth and not too high output or bright. Others might find them a bit dull but with so many amps at my disposal I still couldn’t find anything they sounded bad through. The pickup rings are also metal and match the hardware color, and this era of Ibanez has the headstock logo in a chrome/metallic finish instead of solid white like older models.
