1990 Ibanez 540SFM with LTD Neck

Details

I acquired this guitar from Guitar Center when I was fairly new to Ibanez collecting. It played and sounded incredible, so I was very pleased with the purchase. I’ve since learned that it is actually comprised of two different guitars from this same era. The body is a 540SFM, which has a flamed maple veneer top and back, but has a very fancy SLTD neck, which is fully bound with sharkfin inlays. This neck is absolutely amazing, with the thin Wizard profile and a flat fretboard radius and is one of the best I’ve played for high energy lead work. I suppose the original owner just really wanted a neck single coil, or liked the flamed top - the original body would’ve been a solid color and an HSH pickup arrangement.

New features for 1990 are the Low-Pro Edge tremolo, which is still recessed as before, but the fine tuners have been moved further back away from the hand. This was a popular design trend at the time, with the Floyd Rose Pro coming out around the same time with the same general idea.I don’t personally notice any major difference compared to the regular Edge, and it’s made to the same quality standards so no complaints from me.
