1987 Robin Medley
Details
This Robin guitar was made by ESP in Japan, and despite the body route for a more traditional in-body tremolo (or floyd rose style bridge), this has a factory Kahler 2700 top mount bridge. ESP made similar bodies for other makers and later these earlier Medley’s lost their Kahler and went to a more standard double locking tremolo, so this is an interesting snapshot of an in-between stage in the evolution of the Medley model.
The neck is extremely similar - maybe identical - to many of my ESP made, 3-piece necks used on my Kramers. However, this neck sports 24 frets with a 25.5” scale length, something no bolt-on neck Kramer did at the time. Playability is excellent although the Kahler handles a little less abuse than a double locking Floyd. I do like the easy of adjustment of string spacing and saddle height on this bridge compared to a Floyd which requires a bit more tinkering.
