1985 Kramer Focus 6000
Details
I picked this guitar up sight unseen from GC online for a very good price - I figured if it was truly a Focus 1000, I couldn’t lose and I’d get to try one out. Instead what arrived appears to be a mutt of sorts, a Focus 6000 body mated to a neck marked with the 1000 script, although the paint colors do match, so it could be worse. I really dislike these non-tilt pointy headstocks though, and I ended up sending this one back because it’s just not a Focus 1000 - but I don’t blame them for not knowing that since that’s what it says on the headstock and not everyone is a Kramer expert.
Based on the serial number and others I’ve logged, I think this neck is probably from a later year too, and assuming the plate is original to the body this probably had the rounded off headstock shape, kind of in between the banana and pointy shapes that was around for this year only.
Still, this was a nice player and equipped with an original Floyd Rose and chrome hardware of good quality. Pickups sound just okay, the humbucker is flat and decent output, but the single coils feel very underwhelming.
